Invisalign Q & A
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is dentistry’s modern answer to crooked or misaligned teeth. Traditionally, the only option to align your teeth was with braces. Now, Invisalign is the preferred method.
To begin your Invisalign treatment, the team at 2222 Dental takes digital images of your teeth. They manipulate the images on a monitor to design your treatment plan and predict the movement of your teeth over time. In most cases, Invisalign treatment takes 12-24 months.
How does Invisalign work?
You receive a series of custom clear plastic Invisalign aligners. When you wear them in the right order, they fit seamlessly over your teeth. Because they’re transparent, most people won’t be able to tell that you’re having the treatment.
Each plastic aligner places pressure on your teeth to move them slightly toward their new, straighter position. You must wear them for at least 20 hours a day to stay on track with your treatment plan, and switch to the next aligner after two weeks.
What are the benefits of Invisalign?
The Invisalign treatment process is modern and refined. There are many benefits of using Invisalign instead of regular braces. The advantages include:
- Discreet wear
- The ability to remove your aligners at will
- Less pressure on your teeth
- Less or no soft tissue irritation
- Easy brushing and cleaning
- No dietary restrictions
Invisalign aligners fit snugly so they stay on your teeth easily, but their patented SmartTrack® material makes them comfortable and safe to wear on your teeth for the entirety of your treatment.
What happens after my Invisalign treatment?
The final step in your Invisalign treatment is wearing a retainer. You get your Invisalign® retainer once you’ve completed your treatment plan using all of the aligners. The retainer is similar to your aligners, but it’s designed to keep your teeth in their new position instead of moving them toward it.
The team at 2222 Dental recommends wearing your retainers overnight and during the day when it’s convenient. The more you wear them, the longer your teeth will stay in their newly aligned position. You can use the retainers for the rest of your life or gradually wear them less over time. If you don’t use a retainer, your teeth can shift back into misalignment.
