How Important is it That You Brush Before Bed Every Night?

Everyone knows it is important to brush your teeth two to three times per day. Sometimes, a dentist will recommend brushing after every meal. However, at least once in the morning as soon as you get up and once before bed is essential for your oral health. Here is some information on why it is important to brush your teeth before bed every night.

The Importance of Brushing Before Bed Every Night

Some dentists say it is important to brush your teeth every night before bed. However, the most important thing is that you are brushing them twice per day. It does not matter if it is done right before bed, as long as it is done twice within a 24 hour period.

The reason for this is because when you wake up in the morning and feel that fuzziness in your mouth, that is live bacteria. Brushing your teeth after breakfast and at night, you will kill the bacteria that live in your mouth every morning.

Brushing Between Dinner and Bedtime is More Important

According to the Dean of the University of Pennsylvania's School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Denis Kinane, B.D.S, P.H.d, it is more important to brush your teeth during the time between eating dinner and bedtime than it is to brush right before bed. The reason for this is that it provides more time for your toothpaste to build up the fluoride in it to get rid of the acid and bacteria in your mouth when you do use it.
